Zero Adverse Events Reported with Hemp Use in Birds
Update from Hemp Well®: With over 1,000,000 administrations from our bird-hemp product line—and no adverse events reported—we’re ready for the next step: gathering structured, real-world observations from bird owners to help inform future research and best practices.
Figures reflect Hemp Well internal reporting. See notes on monitoring and reporting below.
Bird Owners: Share Your Observations
We launched an owner-reported survey via the nonprofit BirdHemp.Org to document experiences with hemp in parrots and other companion birds—calm, feather quality, appetite, routine, and more.
Why a Bird Owner Survey?
For emerging categories—like hemp supplements for birds—peer-reviewed research can lag behind what owners and avian veterinarians see day-to-day. Our goal is to borrow from classic “field research” by collecting standardized, anonymous observations from real homes and aviaries. The objective is simple: provide a transparent, owner-centric dataset that can serve as a springboard for the scientific community.
Our Reporting & Safety Practices
Since 2017, Hemp Well has reported monthly product sales and administrations and follows a complete adverse event reporting protocol across our lineup in partnership with federal oversight. Across 5,000,000+ total administrations in dogs, cats, birds, and horses, we’ve not reported a single adverse event related to product use.
- Third-party testing (COA): Each batch is tested for purity and cannabinoid content.
- Organic sourcing & simple formulas: Minimizing unnecessary additives.
- Clear directions: Weight-based guidance on labels for consistent, appropriate use.
Disclaimer: Owner-reported outcomes are not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis, and survey data are observational. Always consult your avian veterinarian before making changes to your bird’s routine.
How the Survey Works
- Eligibility: Your bird currently uses—or has used—Hemp Well bird hemp products.
- What you’ll report: Species, weight, routine, reasons for use, observations (e.g., calm, feather quality, daily behaviors), and any issues.
- Time to complete: About 5–10 minutes. Responses help prioritize future education and research questions.

From One Cat to a Flock of Birds: Our Story
Hemp Well began over eight years ago when our founder’s family cat, Ginger, needed gentle support. Since then, our products have expanded nationwide—both in local pet stores and larger chains—and across species. To keep the survey independent and focused, Ryan Richmond, Hemp Well’s founder, created and funded the nonprofit research site BirdHemp.Org to steward this effort.

Bird Hemp Safety & Survey — FAQs
What does “zero adverse events reported” mean?
It means that based on Hemp Well’s internal monitoring and formal reporting since 2017, we have not recorded a single adverse event associated with our products in birds (and across species) over the stated administrations. Owners should still monitor their birds and consult an avian veterinarian for personalized guidance.
Is owner-reported data as strong as clinical research?
Owner reports are observational and help generate real-world insights and questions for future studies. They complement, but do not replace, controlled clinical research.
How do I participate in the bird survey?
Visit BirdHemp.Org, confirm eligibility, and submit your responses. The survey takes about 5–10 minutes.
Are Hemp Well bird products third-party tested?
Yes. Each batch is tested for purity and cannabinoid content. See each product page for COA details.
Should I talk to my avian veterinarian first?
Always. Your veterinarian understands your bird’s species, age, and medical history and can provide tailored advice.
