Lead poisoning can affect our pets, too
A few years ago, and in many major US cities, lead contamination problems tainted Flint, Michigan water supply for thousands of residents. Children are especially vulnerable to the effects of lead poisoning, which can severely affect mental and physical development, and may even be fatal. According to the CDC, no safe blood level of lead has been identified in children.
Animals are also susceptible to the effects of lead poisoning, which mainly affects the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system.
Signs of lead poisoning in dogs and cats include anorexia, vomiting, painful abdomen, constipation, diarrhea, seizures, stumbling, tremors, and lethargy.
Lead toxicity affects the body’s ability to produce anti-oxidants, which are essential for protecting against reactive oxygen species. Hemp oil contains powerful antioxidants, and may provide some protection against damage caused by environmental toxins like lead poisoning.
