Can Dogs and Cats Take CBD Oil Made for Humans?

Can Dogs and Cats Take CBD Oil Made for Humans? - Hemp Well

Maybe you are already taking CBD (cannabidiol) yourself and thought about supplementing your dog or cat's health as well. Why not, right? After all we all have endocannabinoid receptors. All of our bodies produce cannabinoids, naturally. But, is it safe to give your CBD to your pet? What should you consider before giving your pet a human CBD product?

High Amounts of CBD

Often, human CBD supplements promote high levels of CBD. Dogs, for example, have far more cannabinoid receptors than humans. Too much CBD can be wasteful, and too much CBD can have an adverse effect in the production of natural cannabinoids in both of your bodies.

Does it have THC?

Sometimes THC can be good, and sometimes it may be bad. We already know that dogs have more cannabinoid receptors than us, so THC, the psychoactive part of the cannabis plant, might make your dog "really stoned'. Accounts of dogs staying high for longer than 24 hours are common after eating pot-laced cookies or your bag of grass.

What about terpenes?

Terpenes are found in lots of things in nature. Terpenes give pine trees their pine smell, oranges their aroma, and cannabis' distinctive odor. Terpenes are touted and delivered in higher levels with many human grade products. Terpenes, at certain levels, can be harmful to dogs and even toxic to cats.

Fillers and Flavors

Lots of those human marketed CBD products use cheap fillers and flavors that are not optimal for your pet. In addition, just because you enjoy the cinnamon infused taste, will they?

Since 2012, Hemp Well has offered pet parents a full line of hemp derived CBD supplements formulated for dogs, cats, birds and horses. Our products are organic; contain no artificial flavors, THC or terpenes; and never make use of cheap fillers like MCT, coconut or olive oil. #JustHemp
